The Obelisk
A marker honoring the late Supreme Court Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos has become the newest tourist attraction in the heritage city of Carcar. The obelisk stands in Tan-awan, Barangay Guadalupe, and serves as a tribute to Abad Santos’ bravery and sacrifice during World War II. The obelisk was erected by the Leon Kilat Masonic Lodge No. 437 to commemorate Abad Santos, who was captured by Japanese forces in nearby Barili and later executed in Lanao del Sur. The monument not only honors his legacy but also strengthens Carcar’s historical and cultural significance as a destination.
