Sogod Cebu Beaches and Destinations

Sogod is next town to Catmon. It is about 61 kilometers away from the city and you can reach there for about 2 and half hours by bus. Sogod is more popular as it the place of Alegre Beach Resort- a luxurious beach in the North. Another popular ones are the Tabunok Garden View Resort and the Northsky Beach Resort.

The Origin of the name “Sogod”

Sogod is a local language which translated to english means “the beginning”, “the start”.

A Brief History

The town of Sogod has existed as a unit of government since 1764, when its first civil government was established under the Spanish Provincial Government known as the “Tribunal de Mestizos.” Juan Daligdig served as the first teniente, followed by Juan Tolero and Domingo Udtohan, the first gobernadorcillo. A total of 75 gobernadorcillos led the town before the first capitan municipal was appointed in 1893. In 1903, Sogod was unexpectedly merged with the nearby town of Catmon despite having a larger population. However, by an act of the defunct Philippine Assembly, Sogod regained its independence as a municipality under President Gervacio Monsanto.

November 26, 1921, is celebrated as the second birth of Sogod as an independent municipality. Since then, the town has shown steady political, economic, social, cultural, and religious growth. Today, Sogod is composed of 18 barangays, namely: Ampongol, Bagakay, Bagatayam, Bawo, Cabalawan, Cabangahan, Calumboyan, Dakit, Damolog, Ibabao, Liki, Lubo, Mohon, Nahus-an, Pansoy, Poblacion, Tabunok, and Takay.
